This is my team, River Six, btw.
Yesterday around lunch my team got word that we’re being sent out on disaster. We’ll be leaving tomorrow morning and heading towards Logan, WV to do disaster relief work with FEMA. My team, River 6, along with Delta 8, will be doing some mucking and gutting in response to recent tornados, mudslides, and floods in the area.
I probably won’t have a lot of time from here on out. I’ll try to post whenever I can but it’s looking pretty busy right now.
It’s a bittersweet thing. I’m excited to get out of the classroom and do real work, but I really miss all of the friends I’ve made in the past month. It doesn’t help much that for the first two weeks of this round we’re staying on campus. A campus which is now empty save for the 10 people on my team and the 5 Support Team Leaders.Very eerie. Very sad.
I haven’t been on an actual computer for a month. I’ve been fiending for some real interwebs, this is wonderful.
So what the hell have I been up to? Well I’ll tell you right now. I got back from camping two days ago, it was a great camping trip, I slept on a dock under the stars. Win. I’m typing like I’m five years old, excuse me, I’m really tired, these sentences will be simple.
I got my specialty role yesterday, I’m a Project Outreach Liaison. What that means is that I’ll be in charge of organizing a community volunteer event each round and finding potential new project sponsors for future classes.
We’re being inducted on Monday and our first round project starts Wednesday. My team will be doing a split round and staying in Vicksburg for the first two weeks to work in the Military Park and then heading to West Virginia to do environmental work. I’m really excited about everything that we’ll be doing.
That’s really all I’ve got for now. I’m waiting for some of my pictures to process right now and then I’ll post some stuff from the camping trip.
I’m beginning to feel like this is less of a coherent blog and more of an internet journal stream-of-consciousness type thing. Whatevs, you’ll deal.
So I have a question for you: what’s your favorite thing to blog about?
Stop being a creeper.
In other news, I’m going camping. Fun shit.
So I’ve been like super busy since I got here. Some days we’ve had to work for 12 hours, it’s been hectic.
I got my permanent team last night and found out I’ll be going to West Virginia to do environmental work in a month. I’m pretty excited.
Training has been grueling. The classes can be pretty long and boring sometimes.
I’ve made some awesome friends that I’m very sad I’ll have to say goodbye to so soon. It’s ok, we’ll see each other again in a few months.
That’s about all I have right now. It’s 7 in the morning and I just got done with PT and I had a little time so I figured I would share. More to come soon!
I leave tomorrow. I’m not done packing, I sort of want everything to pack itself so I can hang out with my cat instead.
Tomorrow ought to be exciting though.
So I’ve only got a month left until I head on out, that’s when I’ll be much more active on this blog. Until then I’m just packing a bunch of stuff. I got myself a new longboard and a DSLR which should both prove handy on my little adventure.
I hate packing/planning btw. Like it sucks a lot.
Now off to perform the daunting task of paperwork. I hate paperwork.
It was pretty exciting getting it in the mail today though. I know I’m that much closer to going off and having some amazing experiences.
Anywho, there’s a boring update.
Happy (early) Thanksgiving everyone!
